Canada PR Processing Time 2026: Express Entry, PNP & All Pathways

One of the most common questions we receive from clients is: 'How long will my Canada PR take?' The answer depends heavily on the pathway chosen, how complete your application is, and whether IRCC requests additional information. Here are the current processing times for every major Canada immigration pathway in 2026.

Express Entry Processing Times 2026

  • ITA to PR application submission: 60 days (mandatory)
  • IRCC processing after submission: 4–8 months (service standard: 6 months for 80% of apps)
  • Biometrics: Collected within 30 days of request; results shared with IRCC automatically
  • Medical exam: Valid for 12 months from date of exam; complete before submitting if possible
  • COPR (Confirmation of PR) to landing: Valid for 1 year from date of issue

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Processing Times 2026

  • Ontario OINP Human Capital Priorities: NOI to nomination — 2–4 months; then Express Entry PR — 6 months = 8–10 months total
  • Alberta AINP Opportunity Stream: 6–9 months for nomination; then 6 months Express Entry = 12–15 months total
  • BC PNP Tech: 6–8 weeks for nomination (fastest in Canada); then 6 months Express Entry = 8–10 months total
  • Saskatchewan SINP: 3–6 months nomination; then 6 months EE = 9–12 months total
  • Manitoba MPNP: 4–6 months nomination; then 6 months EE = 10–12 months total
  • Atlantic Immigration Program: 2–4 months for employer endorsement + PR = ~8–12 months total

Other Pathways Processing Times

  • Spousal Sponsorship (partner in Canada): 12 months average
  • Spousal Sponsorship (partner outside Canada): 18–24 months average
  • Parents & Grandparents Sponsorship: Invitation-based lottery (IRPP); processing 24–36 months after ITA
  • Super Visa (parents visitor): 4–8 weeks
  • Canada Student Visa (SDS stream): 20 days for eligible applicants
  • Visitor Visa (TRV): 4–8 weeks from biometrics completion

Most Common Causes of Processing Delays

  • Incomplete or contradictory information in the application
  • Biometrics not submitted within the 30-day window
  • Medical exam results flagged (requires follow-up by IRCC Medical Branch)
  • Background checks: prior study, work, or residence in certain countries (China, India, Middle East) may take longer
  • Technical issues: incorrect file formats, wrong photo specs, expired documents
  • IRCC web form not submitted if application exceeds 6 months

How to Track Your Application

After submitting your PR application, you can track it through the IRCC secure account (My Immigration) portal. You'll see status updates like 'In Progress', 'Decision Made', or specific requests for information. If your application has been in progress for more than 6 months without an update, you can submit a web form (service request) through the IRCC portal asking for a status update. Response to web forms typically takes 4–8 weeks.

The 6-month processing standard is real — we regularly see clients land in Canada within 8 months of their profile being created. The key is a complete, well-prepared application from day one.
