Step-by-Step Application Process

From shortlisting universities to arriving in Singapore โ€” here is exactly what Indian students need to do.

01

Shortlist Universities & Programmes

Research NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT, and SUSS based on your academic background and career goals. Each university has distinct strengths โ€” NUS excels in research; SMU is strong in business and law.

02

Prepare Your Academic Profile

Indian students need strong Class 12 or undergraduate grades, standardised test scores (SAT/GRE/GMAT depending on level), and English proficiency scores (IELTS 6.5+ or TOEFL 90+). Class 12 students applying to NUS/NTU are assessed on a holistic basis.

03

Write SOPs and Gather Documents

Craft a compelling Statement of Purpose tailored to each institution. Collect academic transcripts, marksheets, LORs, CV, and passport copies. Certified translations are required if documents are in a language other than English.

04

Submit Applications

Most universities open applications in Septemberโ€“November for the following August intake. NUS and NTU deadlines are typically in Decemberโ€“March. Apply to 4โ€“6 programmes to maximise your chances.

05

Receive Offer & Apply for Student Pass (ICA)

Once you receive a Conditional or Unconditional Offer, use the SOLAR+ system managed by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to apply for your Student Pass. Your university's International Students Office will guide this process.

06

Arrange Finances & Accommodation

Open a Singapore bank account (DBS/POSB is common for students), arrange on-campus or private hostel accommodation, and carry initial funds of at least SGD 3,000โ€“5,000 for settlement.

07

Arrive & Complete In-Person Formalities

Attend the Student Pass In-Person Enrolment at ICA Building within 30 days of arrival. Complete university orientation and register for courses. You are now officially a Singapore international student.

Student Pass โ€” What Indian Students Must Know

The Student Pass is issued by Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and is mandatory for all international students enrolled in full-time courses.

SOLAR+ Application

Your Student Pass application is submitted through the SOLAR+ online portal. Most universities will initiate this on your behalf after you accept your offer. You will need to upload your passport, photo, offer letter, and financial documents.

In-Person Enrolment at ICA

Within 30 days of arriving in Singapore, you must visit ICA Building in person to complete your Student Pass enrolment. Bring original documents. ICA will scan your biometrics and issue the physical pass.

Annual Renewal

Student Passes are renewed annually. Your university will coordinate with ICA for renewal provided you maintain satisfactory academic progress. The renewal fee is SGD 60.

Dependant Pass for Family

If you wish to bring your spouse or children, a Dependant Pass can be applied for simultaneously. Eligibility and approval depend on financial documentation and the duration of your course.

The EP salary threshold (as of 2025) is SGD 5,000/month for fresh graduates from a recognised institution.
