Eligibility & Documents

Key Requirements for Spain Student Visa

The Spanish consulate evaluates six core criteria. Ensure every document is in order before your appointment to avoid delays or rejection.

University Pre-Enrolment Letter

An official conditional or unconditional offer letter (carta de admisión) from a Spanish university or accredited institution is mandatory. The institution must be registered with the Spanish Ministry of Education.

€600 / Month Bank Balance

Proof of financial means covering your entire stay — approximately €600 per month. Bank statements for the last six months, a scholarship letter, or a notarised sponsor declaration are accepted.

Health Insurance

Comprehensive private health insurance valid for Spain and the entire Schengen Area, with a minimum coverage of €30,000. The policy must cover the full period of your intended stay.

Valid Passport

Indian passport valid for at least three months beyond your intended stay in Spain, with at least two blank pages. A photocopy of all used pages is also required.

Accommodation Proof

Confirmed accommodation details for your initial stay — university residence contract, a rental agreement, or a notarised letter of invitation from a host family or sponsor in Spain.

No Criminal Record Certificate

A police clearance certificate (PCC) issued by the Indian government for all countries where you have resided in the past five years, apostilled and translated into Spanish by a certified translator.

Important: University Pre-Enrolment is Non-Negotiable

Unlike some countries where you can apply for a student visa with a conditional offer, Spain requires a confirmed pre-enrolment or admission. Spanish public universities issue a pre-enrolment certificate (resguardo de preinscripción) which is sufficient for the visa application. Private universities provide a direct admission letter. Both are accepted.

Application Process

Step-by-Step: How to Apply

Follow these six stages from admission to arrival. Future Link guides you through every step, so nothing falls through the cracks.

01

Secure University Admission

Apply to and receive your official admission letter from a Spanish university or language institute. Ensure your institution is listed in the Spanish Ministry of Education's registry. Future Link helps you shortlist universities aligned with your profile and budget.

02

Gather Your Documents

Compile all required documents: valid passport, admission letter, bank statements (€600/month), health insurance, accommodation proof, no-criminal-record certificate, passport photos, and completed visa application form (EX-01).

03

Book a Visa Appointment

Schedule an appointment at the Spanish Consulate in India (Mumbai, New Delhi, or Chennai depending on your jurisdiction). Appointments fill up quickly — book as early as possible, ideally three to four months before your course start date.

04

Attend the Consulate Interview

Attend your appointment with all original documents and self-attested photocopies. Pay the visa application fee (approximately €80). The consular officer may ask questions about your course choice, financial plans, and intention to return to India after studies.

05

Visa Processing & Collection

Standard processing takes 30 to 60 working days. Once approved, you will receive your National Visa D affixed in your passport. Collect it from the consulate or via the designated VFS courier service.

06

Arrive in Spain & Register

Upon arrival, you must register at the local Town Hall (Empadronamiento) within 30 days, apply for your NIE at the Foreigners' Office, and (if your visa is for more than six months) obtain your TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) residence card.

After Graduation

1-Year Job-Seeker Stay After Graduation

Spain's post-study pathway is one of the most generous in Europe, giving you a full year to land a job or start your own venture without the pressure of leaving.

12-Month Extension

After completing your degree at a Spanish university, you can apply for a 12-month Job Seeker authorisation (Autorización de Búsqueda de Empleo) to remain in Spain while you look for work.

Path to a Work Permit

Once you receive a job offer, your employer can sponsor a work permit application. With a valid work contract, transitioning from job-seeker status to a residence and work permit is a well-established process.

Long-Term Residency

After five years of legal residence in Spain (combining student and work years), you become eligible to apply for long-term EU residency — opening doors across the entire European Union.
