Singapore Student Pass Guide

Study in Singapore on a Student's Pass

Everything Indian students need to know about the SOLAR ICA Student's Pass — from NUS and NTU eligibility to costs, work rights, and the step-by-step application process.

Key Facts at a Glance

Before diving into the process, here is what every Indian student must know about the Singapore Student's Pass.

SOLAR ICA Portal

Applications are processed through ICA's SOLAR (Student's Pass On-Line Application & Registration) system. Your institution sponsors the application on your behalf.

University Sponsorship Required

NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT, and SUSS are publicly-funded universities whose acceptance automatically triggers SOLAR sponsorship eligibility.

16 Hours / Week Work Rights

Students at publicly-funded universities may work up to 16 hours per week during term time and full-time during official vacation periods.

SGD 25,000 Funds Recommended

ICA recommends demonstrating sufficient funds to cover tuition and living costs. NUS and NTU advise showing at least SGD 25,000 (~INR 15–17 lakh) per year.

8–12 Week Processing Time

From In-Principle Approval (IPA) to STP registration at ICA, expect a total timeline of 8–12 weeks. Apply early to avoid missing intake deadlines.

LTVP for Dependants

Immediate family members (spouse and children under 21) may be eligible for the Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP), allowing them to reside in Singapore throughout your studies.

Eligibility

Who Qualifies for a Singapore Student's Pass?

Application Process

Step-by-Step: Singapore Student's Pass for Indian Students

The SOLAR ICA process has distinct stages — understanding each one helps you stay on track and avoid common delays.

01

Receive Unconditional Offer Letter

Apply to your chosen university through their admissions portal. Once you receive and accept an unconditional offer, the institution registers your details in the SOLAR system and initiates sponsorship on your behalf.

02

Institution Submits SOLAR Application

Your university's international student office submits a Student's Pass application to ICA via SOLAR. You will receive a notification to complete your portion of the online form (Form 16) and upload supporting documents including transcripts, passport copy, and financial proof.

03

Receive In-Principle Approval (IPA) Letter

ICA reviews your application and, if approved, issues an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter within 4–8 weeks. The IPA serves as your single-entry visa to travel to Singapore — print it and carry it to the airport.

04

Travel to Singapore

Fly to Singapore with your IPA letter, original offer letter, financial documents, and passport. Singapore Immigration at Changi Airport will grant you a 30-day Short-Term Visit Pass to complete ICA registration.

05

Complete Medical Examination

Schedule and complete a medical examination at an ICA-approved clinic in Singapore within the first week of arrival. Upload your results through the SOLAR student portal before your ICA appointment.

06

Register at ICA & Collect Student's Pass

Attend your scheduled appointment at the ICA Building on Kallang Road for biometric enrolment and verification. Your Student's Pass will be issued on the spot (or collected within a few days), valid for the duration of your course.
