Singapore Student’s Pass Complete Guide
Everything Indian students need to know about the Student's Pass via SOLAR — ICA application, fees, biometrics, work rights, and renewal. Expert guidance from Future Link Consultants.
Key Facts About Singapore Student’s Pass
The Student’s Pass is issued by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore through the SOLAR portal. Here is what every applicant must know before starting the process.
SOLAR System
All Student's Pass applications are submitted through ICA's Student's Pass On-Line Application & Registration (SOLAR) portal — a fully digital process.
Application Fee
SGD 30 non-refundable application fee at submission, plus SGD 60 issuance fee upon approval. Total cost is SGD 90 for a successful application.
Processing Time
Typically 4–8 weeks from submission. ICA processes applications in batches; early submission is strongly recommended before your course start date.
Biometrics Appointment
After In-Principle Approval (IPA), you must attend an in-person appointment at ICA Building in Singapore to complete biometric enrollment and collect your pass.
Part-Time Work Rights
Up to 16 hours per week during term time. Full-time work permitted during official school vacations with no separate work permit required.
Validity Period
Student's Pass is typically issued for the duration of your course plus a short grace period. Renewal must be initiated before expiry for continuing students.
Documentation Checklist
Required Documents for SOLAR Application
ICA requires a specific set of documents to evaluate your Student’s Pass application. Missing or inconsistent documents are the leading cause of delays and rejections. Ensure every document is accurate, current, and matches the information in your SOLAR form exactly.
- Valid passport with at least 6 months validity beyond your course end date
- Offer / acceptance letter from a Singapore institution registered with Committee for Private Education (CPE) or autonomous university
- Completed SOLAR online application form
- Recent passport-size photograph (digital, meeting ICA specifications)
- Educational certificates and transcripts (Secondary, Higher Secondary / 10+2)
- English language proficiency test scores (IELTS / TOEFL / equivalent) if applicable
- Proof of financial means — bank statements or sponsor's financial documents
- Medical insurance coverage valid in Singapore for the duration of stay
- Student's Pass application fee of SGD 30 (paid online during SOLAR submission)
Step-by-Step Process
How to Apply for Singapore Student’s Pass via SOLAR
From institution admission to pass collection — a clear, actionable breakdown of every stage in the SOLAR application journey.
Secure Admission & IPA Initiation
Receive your official offer letter from a Singapore institution. The institution (school or university) logs into SOLAR on your behalf and initiates the In-Principle Approval (IPA) application with ICA. You will receive a unique eForm16 reference number.
Complete SOLAR Online Application
Using the reference number provided, you access the SOLAR portal and complete the online form. Upload all supporting documents — passport, photograph, academic transcripts, financial proof, and insurance. Pay the SGD 30 non-refundable application fee online.
ICA Processing & IPA Letter
ICA reviews your application, typically within 4–8 weeks. On approval, an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter is issued electronically. This IPA serves as your single-journey entry visa to Singapore and is valid for 2 months.
Travel to Singapore
Enter Singapore before your IPA expiry date. Present your IPA letter and valid passport at immigration. You will be granted a Short-Term Visit Pass on arrival to allow time for the Student's Pass formalities.
Biometrics Appointment at ICA
Book and attend your in-person appointment at ICA Building, Singapore. Bring original documents — passport, IPA letter, offer letter, and any other documents requested. Biometric data (fingerprints and photograph) will be captured. Pay the SGD 60 issuance fee at this stage.
Collect Student's Pass
Your Student's Pass (a physical card) will typically be ready within a few working days of your biometrics appointment. Collect it from ICA or receive it by mail depending on current ICA procedures. You are now officially permitted to study and work part-time in Singapore.
Fees & Timeline
Costs and Processing Timeline
Singapore’s Student’s Pass fees are among the most affordable in Asia. ICA processes applications on a rolling basis; most decisions arrive within 4–8 weeks. We recommend initiating your SOLAR application at least 2 months before your course commencement date.
Important: The SGD 30 application fee is strictly non-refundable. If your application is rejected or withdrawn, the fee is forfeited. A professional document review before submission is always worth the investment.
