Why language now matters for the PGWP
From November 2024, PGWP applicants must demonstrate a minimum language ability to be eligible — a change that caught many Indian graduates by surprise. Previously, a PGWP did not require a language test; now, a valid result is part of the application, so it should be planned from the start rather than at the last minute.
The exact threshold depends on your program type. As a general guide, university graduates commonly need around CLB 7, while college graduates commonly need around CLB 5, in English or French. These are qualitative benchmarks — you should always confirm the current CLB requirement before you test, since thresholds and accepted tests can change.
