Ireland Student Visa Guide

Study in Ireland: Student Visa for Indian Students

Everything Indian students need to know about applying for the Ireland Study Visa (Study Visa C / D) — from ISD online application and bank balance requirements to GNIB registration and the 2-year stay-back option.

Ireland Student Visa — Key Requirements

Issued by the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS), Ireland's study visa has specific financial, academic, and procedural requirements every Indian applicant must meet.

Unconditional Offer Letter

A confirmed letter of acceptance from a recognised Irish institution (university, IoT, or English language school) enrolled in the Internationalisation Register.

€7,000 Bank Balance

Proof of at least €7,000 in available funds (above tuition already paid), held for a minimum of 6 consecutive months, to cover living expenses.

Tuition Fee Payment

Evidence of first-year tuition fee payment or a financial guarantee. Full or partial tuition payment significantly strengthens your application.

Valid Passport

A passport valid for at least 12 months beyond the intended date of entry to Ireland. Copies of all previously used passports must also be provided.

English Proficiency

IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0–6.5 or equivalent (TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo). Some institutions accept institutional English tests for pre-sessional programmes.

Health Insurance

Comprehensive private medical insurance covering the full duration of your studies in Ireland. Irish public health cover does not extend to non-EEA students automatically.

Ireland Student Visa Application Process

From choosing your course to landing in Dublin — follow these steps to secure your Irish study visa without delays.

01

Choose Your Course & Institution

Select a programme from an institution listed on Ireland's Internationalisation Register. Confirm entry requirements, intakes (September / January), and English proficiency thresholds before applying.

02

Receive Your Offer Letter

Apply directly or through Future Link Consultants to your chosen Irish university or college. Once accepted, you receive an unconditional offer letter — the cornerstone document of your visa application.

03

Pay Tuition Fees

Pay at least the first year's tuition fees and obtain an official payment receipt. This demonstrates genuine intent to study and is a strong positive indicator for visa officers.

04

Prepare Financial & Supporting Documents

Gather 6-month bank statements, income tax returns, salary slips (sponsor), property documents, and health insurance. All documents must be in English or accompanied by certified translations.

05

Apply via the ISD Online Portal

Create your account on the Irish Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) online portal. Complete the visa application form, upload all required documents in PDF format, pay the €60 visa application fee, and submit your application.

06

Biometrics at VFS Global

After online submission, book an appointment at a VFS Global Ireland Visa Application Centre in India (available in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Ahmedabad) to submit biometrics and your original passport.

07

Visa Decision & Travel

Processing typically takes 4–8 weeks. Once your visa is approved, your passport is returned with the visa sticker. Book your flights and travel to Ireland well in advance of your course start date.

08

GNIB Registration on Arrival

Within 90 days of arrival, register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) at the Registration Office in Dublin or your local Garda station. You will receive your Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card confirming your immigration stamp.
