Eligibility & Requirements

What You Need for the Denmark Study Permit

SIRI evaluates every application against these core criteria. Meeting each one is essential before you submit.

University Admission Letter

A formal offer of admission from a SIRI-recognised Danish higher education institution. Part-time or online-only programmes generally do not qualify.

Financial Proof — DKK 6,585/month

Bank statements showing sufficient funds to cover at least DKK 6,585 per month for every month of your programme, held in your own or a sponsor's account.

Valid Passport

An Indian passport valid for at least the entire duration of your intended stay in Denmark plus a reasonable buffer period.

Health Insurance

Comprehensive travel and health insurance covering your full stay until you are registered with a Danish municipality and enrolled in the public health system.

Biometric Data

In-person biometric appointment at the Danish Embassy in New Delhi or the VFS Global centre in Mumbai, Bengaluru, or Chennai.

Application Fee Payment

The SIRI application fee (currently approx. DKK 2,195 for most student permits) must be paid online before your application is processed.

Application Process

Step-by-Step: How to Apply for a Denmark Study Permit

01

Receive Admission & Institutional Upload

Once your Danish university sends you an offer letter, they upload a digital confirmation directly to SIRI's system. This triggers your ability to open an online application.

02

Create Your SIRI Self-Service Profile

Register on the SIRI online portal (newtodenmark.dk). Link your application to the institutional upload using the reference code provided by your university.

03

Complete and Submit the Application

Fill in all personal details, upload financial documents, health insurance proof, and passport copy. Pay the application fee online. Submit the form — SIRI timestamps this as your official submission date.

04

Book & Attend Biometric Appointment

Schedule a biometric appointment at the Danish Embassy in New Delhi or a VFS Global centre. Bring your passport, fee receipt, and printed application confirmation. Your fingerprints and photograph are collected here.

05

SIRI Processing — up to 60 Days

SIRI reviews your complete case. Standard decisions are issued within 60 calendar days. Fast-Track universities may see approvals in as few as 10 business days.

06

Collect Residence Permit Card

On approval, your biometric residence permit card is produced in Denmark. You receive a provisional visa sticker in your passport to travel; collect the physical card from your local Citizens Service (Borgerservice) upon arrival in Denmark.

Costs & Timeline

What to Budget and When to Apply

Denmark is one of the more affordable Scandinavian destinations for Indian students, especially at public universities which charge no tuition for EU/EEA students (note: Indian students do pay tuition). Plan your finances early — SIRI verifies funds rigorously.
