6-Step Pathway: Teacher to Canadian PR

From Indian classroom to Canadian permanent residence — here's exactly how it works

01

Eligibility Assessment

Confirm NOC code (41220/41221/41200), calculate CRS score, identify best pathway — Express Entry category draw, French draw, or PNP — based on your degree, language scores, and experience.

02

Educational Credential Evaluation (ECA)

Get your B.Ed./M.Ed. assessed by WES or a designated ECA body. Most Indian degrees from NCTE-recognized institutions are found equivalent to Canadian bachelor's degrees.

03

Language Testing (IELTS / TEF)

Write IELTS Academic for CLB 9+. If targeting French draws, write TEF Canada or TCF Canada for NCLC 7 in French. Strong language scores are the single biggest CRS lever for teachers.

04

Express Entry Profile & ITA

Create your profile in the Express Entry pool under FSWP. IRCC runs education-category draws selecting NOC 412xx candidates — your profile stays active for 12 months. Receive ITA when your CRS meets the cut-off.

05

PR Application Submission

Submit a complete PR application within 60 days of ITA. Includes police clearances, medicals, reference letters, employment records, and ECA. Our team prepares every document to IRCC standards.

06

Provincial Teaching Certification

After landing, apply to OCT (Ontario), BC Teacher Regulation Branch, or provincial body. Submit transcripts, teaching certificates, and reference letters. Bridge programs run 4-12 months if additional coursework is needed.

Credential Recognition by Province

Each province certifies teachers independently — choose your destination wisely

Ontario
Certifying Body
Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
4–8 months

Largest demand. Strong English required. Additional qualification (AQ) courses may be needed for special education.

British Columbia
Certifying Body
BC Teacher Regulation Branch
3–6 months

High demand especially in interior BC. BC Ed. certificate valid across public and independent schools.

Alberta
Certifying Body
Alberta Education — Teaching Certificate
2–5 months

Fast-growing province. Teaching certificate issued directly by the government. No teachers college membership required.

New Brunswick
Certifying Body
NB Dept. of Education
2–4 months

Bilingual province — French teachers in extreme demand. PNP stream for teachers with fast processing.

Manitoba
Certifying Body
Professional Certification Unit
2–4 months

Active international teacher recruitment. MPNP Skilled Worker stream available with low CRS requirements.

Nova Scotia
Certifying Body
NS Dept. of Education
3–5 months

Smaller market but Atlantic Immigration Program offers faster PR routes. Strong demand for special education.

French-Speaking Teachers: Near-Instant Canada PR

Canada faces a critical shortage of French-language educators. Teachers with NCLC 7 in French are selected in dedicated French-language Express Entry draws with CRS scores as low as 320 — draws that run multiple times per year. New Brunswick and Ontario offer additional PNP pathways exclusively for bilingual educators.
