Which NOC Code Is Right for Your Finance Career?

The NOC code on your Express Entry profile must match your actual job duties — not just your job title. For Indian finance professionals, three NOC codes are most commonly applicable. Understanding which one fits is the first step.

NOC 11101TEER 1

Financial & Investment Analysts

  • Equity Research Analyst
  • Investment Analyst
  • Portfolio Manager
  • Financial Modelling Analyst
  • Risk Analyst
  • Fund Analyst

Best for: CFA holders, equity research professionals, investment banking analysts, fund managers

NOC 11100TEER 1

Financial Auditors & Accountants

  • Chartered Accountant (CA)
  • External Auditor
  • Internal Auditor
  • Tax Accountant
  • Assurance Manager
  • Big 4 Manager

Best for: ICAI Chartered Accountants, Big 4 professionals, corporate accountants

NOC 10010TEER 0

Finance Managers

  • CFO / VP Finance
  • Finance Controller
  • Treasury Manager
  • FP&A Head
  • Finance Business Partner
  • Group Finance Manager

Best for: Senior finance leaders managing teams of 3+ staff, with P&L responsibility

⚠️ Important: Your NOC code must be supported by your actual duties — not just your designation. A CA working as a Financial Analyst must use NOC 11101, not 11100. An incorrect NOC code is grounds for Express Entry profile rejection or PR refusal. Always have your job description reviewed before submitting.

CPA Canada Pathway for Indian Chartered Accountants (ICAI)

The ICAI–CPA Canada Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) is one of the best credential recognition deals in professional immigration

1

Verify ICAI Membership Eligibility

You must be an active ICAI member (ACA or FCA) with at least 2 years of post-qualification experience. Apply to CPA Canada's MRA pathway through your provincial CPA body (CPA Ontario, CPABC, CPAA, etc.).

2

Assessment of Competencies

CPA Canada reviews your ICAI qualification, academic transcripts, and experience to determine which CFE modules you must complete. Most ICAI members with the Institute's full curriculum are required to write only the CFE.

3

Write the Common Final Examination (CFE)

The CFE is a three-day national examination covering financial reporting, strategy & governance, management accounting, assurance, and taxation. It tests application of knowledge in realistic business scenarios, not rote memorization. Pass rate for first-time writers is approximately 75%.

4

Complete Work Experience Requirement

You need 30 months of practical experience in a CPA-approved role. ICAI post-qualification experience may count toward part of this requirement. Most Indian CAs working in Canadian accounting firms complete this within 1–2 years of arriving.

5

Receive CPA Designation

Upon passing the CFE and meeting experience requirements, you are admitted as a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant). In Canada, the CPA designation replaced the CA, CGA, and CMA designations in 2014 — it is the only recognized accounting designation for professional practice.
