Australia student visa — 6 steps for Indian students

The most common errors from Indian applicants: weak GTE statements and incorrect financial evidence. Future Link addresses both proactively.

01
Enrol at a CRICOS-registered institution

Your Australian university or TAFE must be registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses (CRICOS). After accepting your CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment), you can apply for the visa.

02
IELTS / PTE / TOEFL score

Universities typically require IELTS 6.0–6.5 or PTE 50–58. TAFE colleges often accept lower scores. Check your institution's specific CoE requirements — failing to meet them can cancel your enrolment.

03
Show financial capacity

Demonstrate ability to pay tuition + AUD 24,505/year living costs + AUD 8,574/year for a spouse + AUD 3,670 per child (2024 figures). Bank statements, GIC, scholarship letters, or a guaranteed scholarship all count.

04
Apply online via ImmiAccount

Apply at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au. Pay AUD 710 application fee. Submit CoE, financial evidence, English test, health insurance (OSHC), and health examination (HAP ID).

05
Health examination & biometrics

Book a medical examination with a DIBP-approved panel physician in India (typically takes 1–2 weeks). Biometrics may be required — you'll be notified via ImmiAccount. Processing is usually 4–8 weeks.

06
Get visa grant & buy OSHC

Visa is granted electronically (no sticker in passport). OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) is mandatory for the duration of your visa and must be purchased before departure. Popular providers: Medibank, Bupa, NIB.
